Our client, a leading global supply chain management company is seeking a motivated and commercially experienced individual for its Dallas office within its Logistics & Transportation division. With approximately 300 possible points of origin in interior 3P warehouses, 10 different inland ports, 20 different end market destinations, and over 350 different counterparties, there is a critical need to process multiple complex variables within our supply chain to manage costs effectively.
This individual will join the business to develop bandwidth and capability in in-house trucking and drive cost efficiencies in this large direct cost sector of the operation. The freight market is rapidly changing due to a new regulatory environment and a strong economy. We are seeking an experienced individual with a depth of knowledge and experience in moving cargo in over-the-road freight as well as intermodal container moves, and who has experience in designing and negotiating dedicated contracts with truckers. The successful candidate will have experience in the business of truck brokerage, and have worked with multiple transportation technology platforms.
The primary purpose of this role is to drive direct cost savings through the implementation of an in-house trucking strategy. This division moves 40,000 loads of cargo each year currently with a hybrid mix of transportation brokers, owner/operators and asset based carriers. The cargo moves in consistent lanes each year and loads/unloads from company owned warehouses as well as 3P stores. With the consistent volume the business is now operating with, the objectives will be to achieve greater efficiencies and economies of scale in transportation by implementing a direct strategy with dedicated assets to our business.
The creation of a trucking division within is a greenfield project for the division. This role would be responsible for evaluating the environment, understanding and meeting regulatory/compliance requirements around brokerage, maintaining a deep understanding of the intermodal and over-the-road freight market rates, nuances and vendors. You must have the ability to scope and evaluate market opportunity to implement business strategy, as well as manage daily operational risk in transportation.
The secondary purpose of this role is to manage operational and performance issues with trucking vendors to extract greater value from existing and future vendor arrangements. You will ensure that all truckers working with the company meet business requirements around insurance and contractual compliance, and will provide guidance and recommendations around carrier selection within regional markets.
- 7+ years of operational experience in an asset based trucking organization/ division or Brokerage house
- 3+ years’ experience leading a team in an asset based trucking organization / division or Brokerage house
- Demonstrated experience in setting up or operationalizing a trucking or truck brokerage operation
