Reports to: VP Operations
Location:  Massachusetts
Compensation: Base salary to 100K or commensurate with experience

Summary:
The Director Engineering, Maintenance & Safety will have overall responsibility for the Maintenance, Engineering and Safety program for a state or the art Foods Processing and Packaging plant. The Plant Engineer will manage and direct the day-to-day maintenance of the facility as well as the training and development of the existing Maintenance staff. He/she will have responsibility and oversight of all plant project engineering, the Plant Safety program as well as adding assistance to the development and execution of the annual capital budget.

The Director Engineering, Maintenance & Safety will work cross-functionally with other department managers to in order to successfully deliver on accountabilities and key objectives.  As a key department manager he/she is expected to be self-directed and proactive in the execution of daily duties and responsibilities.  This position supports all maintenance and engineering projects, both long and short term.  Supervises and coordinates the activities of assigned supervisors and workers.  Manage day-to-day maintenance needs, including managing the PM program.  He/she is responsible for delivering budget and cost reduction expectations as set forth by the Vice President Operations. 

Difficulty and Responsibility of Work:
Director Engineering, Maintenance & Safety will be expected to work with minimal supervision.  He/she must be proficient in developing and managing maintenance and engineering supervision.  He/she must proficient in systems improvement and installing effective processes where needed. The implementation of a cohesive Safety program for the plant will be an important initiative in the first 6 months of employment.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director Engineering, Maintenance & Safety must be able to first and foremost effectively lead and manage the Maintenance department.  Key components include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly manages an Engineering & Maintenance Mgr and 6 Maintenance Mechanics.
He/she is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, training, and evaluation of the department assigned personnel.  He/she carries out managerial/supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university is required. It will be a definite plus if the individual had license(s) in wastewater and high pressure boilers.
